Last Year On This Day…

I’m working on my sermon right now at Starbucks down towards D.C.  Here’s a picture of me from last year, right about this time…actually, while some were conspiring against me, I didn’t even realize it but I shaved my head (a Biblical custom to display a individual in mourning)…I guess that’s God’s sense of humor.  I’m glad to have my hair back, and tomorrow it will be nice to be back in the pulpit as well.

The Dinner Guest

The picture here to the left is one that Melissa Markley took when we were at the beach with them last weekend.  Adam and Melissa continue to be such great friends to Katie and I, we’re so blessed to have crossed paths with them.

We went out for dinner one night (we decided that we were going to go out to a nice dinner one night and not spend money on anything else while we were at the beach).  We went to a really awesome restaurant with incredible food.  While we were there, we ran into some friends from Pequea Church.  It was great to see them all, even though we could only have a short conversation – and it was so incredibly generous because later that night we found out they paid our entire bill (including the tip).  We all were speechless…thank you God.

The Eyes of Justice…

Bringing Justice

Here he is…Justice.  We named him Justice for several reasons.  Perhaps the greatest reason is because his name “fits.”  This past year (I can’t believe it has almost been a year), Katie and I went through a difficult season.  Yup…we “went” through a difficult season.  I really believe and we sense that we are transitioning into a new season now.  Anyway – there are many words that we could use to describe the season…difficult…disappointing…lonely…painful…but – in the midst of all that we went through, God granted us Justice.  God has been so very faithful providing for us above and beyond this past year.  God also stood in for us, and when the truth was sought and humility put on,

justice was served.  Maria got her name because at the time we were in a season of ministry in Lancaster – a predominant Hispanic neighborhood.  We often think of our memories of doing ministry in Lancaster when we hear her name, and it brings us back to the booming Latin music and late night walks through the streets saying hello to everyone on their front-porches, block parties, and Impact.  As our journey continues, Justice will be a constant reminder of the blessing – the justice – that God has brought and continues to bring into our lives.  Thank you God, for being a just God.

His middle name is Adley.  We decided to give him this name after my cousin (and best friend) Adley Kilgore.  Adley and I went to Uganda together the other year (along with my brother Ryan and my friend Steve Quintiliani).  Adley has always felt more like a brother to me then a cousin, and if I could ever force someone to move in with me, it would be him.
