This past weekend was such a busy (but incredibly awesome) weekend for Bridge Connections. It started with Saturday night we went to New Covenant Community Church because the leaders and pastors of Sandy Bay Lighthouse Ministries flew in from Honduras. We had a great time meeting the leaders from the orphanage that Bridge Connections supports, and the night featured a benefit concert by Don Shire – Don is an incredible evangelist that travels all over the world playing his trumpet and raising support and awareness for orphan and widow ministries. Kate and I got home late Saturday night and then I got up early Sunday morning and headed down to Rockville, MD to speak at the Chinese Bible Church of Maryland. Specifically I spoke to 11th and 12th graders on how they can be difference makers in their world by serving orphans and widows. The title of the lesson was “The Reality of Poverty in Africa.” All in all it was an incredible weekend.

Haiti and Uganda and Honduras

Today has been a busy day for Bridge Connections. I was able to call and talk today on the phone with Jolene and Julia over in Uganda. They seem to be doing very well. When I called them they were busy helping the children with their homework. Then also today I was able to talk on the phone with a man named Pastor Seige. He is a Pastor that we were able to connect up with through Doug Mclean at Calvary Church in Delta. Dustin Goss and I are trying to make arrangements to travel to Haiti next month and so we’ve been working with Pastor Seige to make those arrangements. So far it seems like things are coming together and God seems to be leading us in that direction. Then, of course, there is the Honduras teams…that’s right, teams (plural)! This past Sunday Katie and I were at New Covenant and helped to pray up and send off their Honduras team of 9 that are leaving in just a few weeks. In addition, I’ve been working this week in putting together the details for another team to leave for Honduras in the fall. I’m so grateful to be able to do such meaningful work – thank you monthly donors!

Bridge Connections Uganda Team

I’m so very proud of BC Transformational Travelers who recently returned from Uganda. While in Uganda they built a house for a widow, and they also purchased and installed this water filtration system (it will collect the rain water and filter it for healthy drinking). Many of you have given to BC financially, this is the work that you are investing in! These children at this orphanage in Jinja, Uganda now have clean drinking water. (There are over 50 orphans cared for at Father’s Divine Love Ministries in Jinja, Uganda).

I just got a call from Dustin Goss last night that the Uganda team has made it safely to Uganda. Meanwhile, the Kitchin family is finishing up their scouting trip in Honduras. Below are a few pics! This morning Katie and I went for a great walk with the kids, and we attended lifechurch.tv. It was a great time for Katie and I to process some things after coming off the Willow Creek Leadership Summit.

Uganda Team Deploys

Jolene Goss and Kristin Schiffer left today with there team to Jinja, Uganda where they will be serving for the next 2 weeks with FDLM. I’ll keep you posted and updated – Jolene called me from the airport when they had boarded the plane to let me know that everyone got on the plane just fine. She will call again when they arrive in Jinja.

Meanwhile…Bill, Bev and Becky Kitchin are getting ready to return from Honduras. They’ve sent me some pictures of the orphanage where they are serving in Roatan. I plan to post them tomorrow here on the blog.

Katie and I just returned from the Leadership Summit, where we attended with Dustin Goss – our Haiti leader. Dustin and Dana are preparing for their next trip. So much exciting news to share with all of you on the blog over the next couple of days. Stay tuned!

Bill, Bev and Becky Kitchin Deploy to Honduras

This past weekend Bill and Bev Kitchin, along with their daughter Becky – deployed to Honduras on behalf of Bridge Connections. For the next several days they will be scouting the city of Roatan, seeking to build a partnership with local grassroots orphan ministries. Bill and Bev will be returning in January 2011 with a team of Transformational Travelers. They also hope to return again in the summer of 2011. Bill and Bev’s initiative is one of the three part mission of Bridge Connections, to have 3 established sites by 2013. To join their mission, you can e-mail me at contact@nathankilgore.com.
